SPOTLIGHT

WINE ENTHUSIAST MAY 2017

91 Points - Album Reserva Regional Alentejano 2014
"This is big, concentrated wine. It has a dense blackberry fruit backed by layers of firm tannins. Rich and full bodied, it will be better from 2018.”

91 Points - Herdade de Catapereiro Escolha Red Reg. Tejo 2015
“This organic vineyard in the northern reaches of Tejo regularly produces concentrated wines like this. It's richly endowed with fine tannins and black fruit but also has the sort of structure that will allow it to age well. Drink from 2019.” EDITORS' CHOICE

91 Points - Lua Cheia em Vinhas Velhas Reserva White 2015
"Old vines give this ripe and fruity wine both concentration and a fine perfumed character. With a short six months in wood, it's smooth, creamy and rich with apricot and mango flavor, needing some aging. Drink from 2018."

91 Points - Pegos Claros Reserva DOC Palmela 2013
"Castelão thrives in the sandy soils of the Palmela appellation. This reserve wine from 60-year-old vines with 12 months in wood is a rich, structured example. It's full bodied and ripe, packed with black plum fruit and acidity. Still young, it's ready to drink but will be better from 2018."

90 Points - Lua Cheia em Vinhas Velhas Red DOC Douro 2015
"This perfumed old vine field blend is rich and stylish. It has weight without power, a fine combination of lively red fruit and firm tannins, and will age well for years. Drink from 2019." BEST BUY

90 Points - Nostalgia Alvarinho 10 Barricas Vinho Verde DOC 2015
"As the name suggests, only 10 barrels of this rich expression of Alvarinho were produced. It has crisp acidity, ripe apple and apricot flavors and just a hint of the wood. An ageworthy white that will be better from 2018."

89 Points - Azul Portugal Reserva DOC Douro 2014
"This ripe, juicy wine is full of rich tannins that are seamlessly integrated into its generous black fruit. It shows spice from wood aging, jammy fruitiness and balanced acidity. Ready to drink now for its delicious fruit, it will continue to develop until 2024."

89 Points - Maria Papoila Escolha Vinho Verde DOC 2015
"
Crisp lemon and green apple flavors shine through this lively, fruity wine. It has a cool character, tangy fruitiness and a touch of pepper. The wine is made to drink in its youth and is ready now.
BEST BUY

88 points - Colleja DOC Douro 2014
"This is a rich, full and structured wine with a great balance between black fruit and tannins. It shows the stony minerality of the Douro, with generous fruit and acidity. Drink from 2018." BEST BUY

88 Points - Nostalgia Alvarinho Vinho Verde DOC 2015
"From old vines trained on high trellises, this fruity wine is bright with citrusy acidity and lemon zest-like texture. Its creamier side emerges as the wine develops in the glass. Best to wait until 2018.”

87 Points - Azul Portugal DOC Do Tejo 2015
“Fruity and smooth with bright red fruit and the lightest touch of tannin, this Castelão-dominated blend has a shot of acidity to keep it all crisp. Drink now.” BEST BUY

86 Points - Herdade de Catapereiro Red Reg. Tejo 2015
This state-owned estate of forests and vineyards grows organic grapes. This wine, softly structured and ripe has light black fruits and plenty of acidity. An undercurrent of tannin keeps the wine in order and will allow it to age. Drink from 2018."

86 Points - Monte da Baía Regional Península de Setúbal 2015
"
Made by Leonor Freitas in the family winery, this is a rich blend of Castelão, Touriga Nacional and Syrah. With its firm tannins balanced by juicy red fruit, it's a wine to savor from early 2018.
"

Cheers!

PEGOS CLAROS BLANC DE NOIRS

Pegos Claros Castelão Blanc de Noirs is the most recent addition to the Herdade de Pegos Claros wine family.

Made from the single grape variety at Herdade de Pegos Claros, it is a white wine produced with the red grape variety Castelão.

Pale green-yellow in colour, Pegos Claros Blanc de Noirs presents an elegant combination of green fruit (apple and pear) with mineral notes. Partially fermented in French oak barrels (20%) and aged on lees for 5 months, this is a surprisingly structured wine with present acidity and a long finish.

This wine pairs well with salads, seafood and various fish dishes.

Pegos Claros Blanc de Noirs DOC Palmela 2016 is a limited edition of 3.300 bottles.
