VINHO DA VOLTA - WHEEL WINE - ON SHIP COIMBRA
A new lot of 3000 bottles of red wine from the Douro have been on board the Portuguese ship "Coimbra". This is the second edition of the "wheel wine", an initiative of the Merchant Navy Officers Club and Lua Cheia em Vinhas Velhas. "The wine is a tribute to the Maritime Memory and Heritage of Portugal and to the Portuguese fishermen who, for centuries, have dedicated their lives to long-distance fishing", says the producer. The first edition was a success and it showed differences from the lot of wine that did not sail. The ship's master confirmed that "Poseidon" brought luck to the fishery and they were able to fill the ship basement faster than expected. The "Coimbra" departed on January 18 from the Port of Aveiro, in Gafanha of Nazaré, on the way to Newfoundland, Canada. Produced with Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Souzão, the wine, a Grande Reserva from 2014 vintage, will age at see for four months. During this time on board, the wine will develop characteristics that it would not develop if it were to remain on land. As the 2016 edition, the wine will be labeled and sold on return.
